Line Selection

Line lengths are calculated per meter based on the following options:

Side Protection

1. Lines run from P-Trap swivelboom on shoulders of the vessel and stop before own propeller, the, vessel will have full capabilities to maneuver in case of a pirate attack. This spread could leave vulnerable zones on the stern close to the propeller.

2. Lines can run from shoulders of the vessel (e.g. forecastle deck) in water astern to past own propeller (lines behind own vessel). The vessel has increased safety zone. This method include review company maneuvering best practices. The vessel should keep course and have maximum speed, not maneuver since the entire vessel has a safety zone for protection of coming along side. Stern protection (weighted support with weaklink & lines) has no blind spot on sides and stern by having full safety zone.

3. Lines can run from P-Trap Swivel boom on shoulder of the vessel and stop before own propeller. A second set of P-Trap Swivel booms is installed just ahead of the propeller and will carry lines up to 100 m astern of the vessel. This in combination with Stern protection will maintain full capabilities to maneuver and eliminate lines running in own propeller. The options above should be carefully considered based on the vessel design and location of installation.

Stern Protection

Calculate the number of lines at the stern of the vessel:
width vessel meter / 0,3 meter = number of P-Trap lines (stern protection)
Ideally verify vessel stern design to allow for side lines and stern protection.
Westmark will deliver an operations procedure which describes the steps to deploy and retrieve the lines during operation. Westmark believes that a full understanding of the capabilities of the P-Trap system delivered according to vessel specifications creates a solid safety zone.
